Max Pry, Private Eye is a one-act play written and directed by SJ Fawcett. Set in 1940s Chicago, the story follows Max Pry, a city detective who dreams of becoming a hard-boiled Private Eye, like his heroes Sam Spade and Phillip Marlowe. There’s only one problem: Max is a terrible detective! His greatest bust - discovering Frankie “The Cruncher” Pavlov’s hideout in a downtown laundromat - was purely by accident (even detectives need to clean their clothes every now and then). So when Max’s boss gives him an ultimatum that could see him demoted to janitor, Max teams up with some (equally incompetent) gangsters to stage the bust of a lifetime!
Part film noir, part screwball comedy - Max Pry, Private Eye is like the perfect toasted sandwich… “Very cheesy and with extra ham!”
